That's because he is standing right under the ice mustache that looms higher (the climber is not close enough to the rock). That thing drops big chunks from time to time.

No doubt. We saw it, and prudently moved in towards the overhanging cliff. Some chunks ultimately did fall off it, so we did not take any chances with it.

Ben, it was such an awesome day there friday eh? I was there with Alden & Jim Knight. Hope you had a good time on Great Maddness Sat. The day sure started out with some interesting action near you!!

Good Times Al! I really enjoyed Way in the Wilderness. Really excellent conditions. I'm really glad you and Alden and Jim came by toward the end of our time there. I got some really nice shots of Alden leading. Have a look on my site: [ link ] Also on Saturday, that was veeery exciting, I was genuinely surprised our day didn't end up as an evacuation. You don't see that every day. Kind of put me on edge for my lead on Great Madness...
