Gawd how I hate that method!! My friend Jeff always did that. His big fun was scareing the piss out of clients by shaking the rope and haveing it fall down after the rap and pretending that it wasen't supposedd to come down so easy...

He never died and he saved $5 bucks on a seasons worth of thread cord... Heck most of my thread cord is booty.. The worst case scenario for that rap is a a tangle in the rope on a ledge that you traverse to and then inadvertantly unweight the rope while sorting it out... Or maby the rope slided a bit unevenly through the device and then you unweight it and weight it again.

Why wouldn't you just feed your rope through the V-thread?

2 things, 1 - looks like the 2 holes are a tad close, and 2 - I echo lazylineman - why don't people realize you can just thread your rope through it?

At the Lake the sun warms it up, everything gets wet then the sun goes down just as you start to rap. Everything now freezes quickly and it is often a race to keep the ropes from freezing in. Epics have and will happen from this. Threading the rope directly through the ice most likly adds to the risk of rope freeze... YMMV

Should be called 'rapping the green way' or maybe more accurately 'rapping the blue way' .. leaving nothing behind Smile

the screw retrieval trick, that's old school. haven't seen that one in a while, and probably for good reason.
